Sports betting, explained

Odds are a price that reflects a probability plus the bookmaker's margin. Understand the price and the settlement rules, and everything else follows.

Common markets

Match result (1X2)
Home win, draw or away win at full time. Extra time usually does not count; check the rules.
Handicap
One side starts with a goal or point adjustment to even out a mismatch. Asian handicap removes the draw in many lines.
Over/under
Bet on whether total goals, points or games go above or below a line.
Outright
Bet on the winner of a league or tournament, settled when it finishes.
Live (in-play)
Odds update as the event happens. Markets can be suspended briefly after key moments.

Reading the odds

Asian sportsbooks often let you switch between formats. Decimal odds are the simplest: a stake of 10 at 1.90 returns 19 in total if it wins. Our odds guide covers decimal, Malay and Hong Kong formats and how to convert odds into implied probability.

Sports you will usually find

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Esports

Coverage changes with the sporting calendar and differs by region.

Before you place a bet

  • Confirm the market and line, especially for handicaps and totals.
  • Read how the market settles: regular time only, or including extra time?
  • Check the stake and potential return on the bet slip before confirming.
  • Know what happens if an event is postponed or abandoned.
  • Treat accumulators carefully: every selection must win, and risk compounds.
