18+ only

Responsible play

Gambling should be a paid-for form of entertainment with a fixed cost. These habits help keep it that way.

Age and eligibility

You must be at least 18, and old enough under the law where you live, to gamble. Rules on online gambling differ between Malaysia and Singapore and can change. It is your responsibility to check that taking part is lawful for you. This page is general guidance, not legal advice.

Set limits before you start

  • Budget: decide the amount you can afford to lose this week or month. Money for bills, rent or savings is never part of it.
  • Time: set an alarm for when you will stop, and stop when it rings.
  • Stop rule: decide in advance that you will end the session when the budget is gone, and do not top up.
  • Win rule: decide what you will do with a win before you start, such as withdrawing part of it.
  • Account tools: if your regional site offers deposit limits, cool-off or self-exclusion, consider setting them on day one.

Warning signs

  • Chasing losses, or betting more to win back what you lost.
  • Borrowing money or using money meant for essentials.
  • Hiding gambling from family or friends.
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when not gambling.
  • Gambling for longer than you planned, often.

Getting help

If any of these sound familiar, take a break and talk to someone you trust. In Singapore, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), under the Ministry of Social and Family Development, provides support and information. In Malaysia, a doctor or a counselling service can help or refer you. If you are in immediate distress, contact local emergency services.
